America rant

Hey, guys! Happy Fourth of July to those in America! To everybody else, hope you're having a great Thursday :)

So I've been kind of getting annoyed at the mindset of many Americans lately, and I feel like I might as well just post about it, so if you don't like opinions you can listen to some Macklemore below. But yeah, it seems like most of what I see on the internet of Americans are 1) people who constantly complain/poke holes in our country's infrastructure, or directly target other citizens with whom they don't agree, and 2) people who talk about liking our country, but only sarcastically. It kind of annoys me.

I mean, it isn't a crime to love (or even like or appreciate) your country, and it seems like lately we as a people are largely just overly avoiding stepping on other people's toes. Unless you're obnoxious about it, nobody will be offended if you mention liking your country without sarcastically tacking a 'murica at the end of your sentence. Seriously.

Don't get me wrong; I in no way think that the United States does everything perfectly... of course we have room for improvement, as every country does in some respect. But to a point (while still keeping in mind our country's errors and attempting to improve them) I feel like we should appreciate what we have. I, personally, am thankful that I could receive a pretty decent public education (even though I think there should be more of a focus on grammar), and that we have a pretty dang corruption-free police force, and we have nice roads and other shiny public services.

Many people just take things for granted, and are often so whiney and annoying. My least favorite kind of person in this respect is the kind of person that just talks about how they want to move to Canada or Germany or something just because they don't like certain aspects of America's government. Truthfully, if you're so willing to jump ship, I'd rather you just follow through and leave all the people who are actually willing to work for a better future here.

So yeah, that was pretty serious, so here's a list of things I like about America:
  • We cook some pretty dang good food
  • We're pretty diverse and deal with that diversity very well, all things considered
  • We're able to laugh at ourselves (even if we do it too much sometimes)
  • We can be quite festive at times, and we can come together as a people when disaster strikes
  • We have fireworks, which are pretty
Anyway, happy Fourth of July! And don't forget; it's okay to like your country :)
