July 2013 Playlist

Yup, it's that time of the month! ;)

Here're all the songs I've posted this month of July 2013, in a handy Soundcloud set list (in with it's special "the other color from our site" button)! Hope you enjoy it!

Last (song) day of July

Yep :(

But let's keep it happy, even though I know you're all heartbroken. Here's a song by a random band I just found via a song a friend found from an artist I showed her... yep! Here's Over & Over by Smallpools! It's probably the happiest song I've heard in a while.

Physical (in)activity

So I just realized that I haven't done a vector graphics blog in a really long time!

Of course, that doesn't mean I'm going to today...

...or for writing a witty caption.

I will soon, I promise! But until then, I'm adopting Christine's more "hip" and "with it" method of inserting relevant/trendy gifs/memes to supplement the text. Yay for being lazy!

Christine: It's not actually "hip" or "with it"... I just don't know how to make pretty vector graphics. I suck at those, remember? *cries*

And that's actually exactly what today's topic is about!

So I've had many a confession about being lazy, but that's for a reason... it's a legitimate problem for me. Especially in the field of physical activity (a field in which I haven't been in a very, very long time). Thank the Lord for my speedy metabolism, because without it I would probably look like Jared pre-Subway rehab.

And I really have no excuse, either. A lot of people don't work out because they don't have a gym membership or any equipment, right? Well, I go to a large state school with a fully equipped gym and everything! Guess how much it would cost for a student (such as myself) to use? You guessed it, kids! Nothing! Well, ignoring tuition.

To add on even further, I even have a mindset that would (theoretically) encourage exercise: a somewhat negative self-image! Yeah, it sounds bad, but if you think about it, you'd think my not liking the way I look would encourage me to become fit. Yet somehow, I'm so incredibly lazy that my sloth properties trump all else. I think to myself, "I'm chubby. I should work out." But then I'm all like, "nah, I'll just watch Burn Notice and eat some Little Debbie's."

So yeah, that's my life.

Also, try to convince me that this is not the face of evil.

"Little" Debbie, my fat ass.

Jacob

More prog house!

Because shut up! I like progressive house!

Here's a remix by Special Features, a really cool (probably) bedroom producer known for his remix of Strobe by deadmau5, and I really like it. It came out today while I was at work (or at least, that's when I noticed it) and it really did make my day :)

So without further ado, here's the Special Features remix of Can't Stop Now by the talented electro (?) house duo, The Aston Shuffle.

Dislike + dislike = like?

First of all, sorry I didn't post the last couple days... I was camping, thus no internets :)

Anyway, today's song is from two artists I don't really like separately (Disclosure and Flume) but I really like this song. Is it because of the cool drums mixed with really ethereal synths in the drop? Probably.

So yes, here's the Flume remix of You & Me by Disclosure! Enjoy!

My type of music

Hey, cutting it close with this one, so I'll be brief: this band (Saint Motel) is awesome, and I love them. They just posted this song today, and it made me sososo happy. It's got some great instrumentation, it's funny, and beautiful. Hope you like it! Also, it's yet another great free download!

Repetitive vibes

Hey, sorry I missed the last couple days :(

Anyway! This track is super repetitive, but it's got a great vibe, and I think it's perfect for summer. Also, it's a Penguin Prison remix, so that kind of assures a certain level of awesomeness! With some high-soaring vocal cuts and some great disco elements, all on top of a ever-present four-on-the-floor beat, this song is pretty great. So here's Penguin Prison's remix of Love Somebody by Maroon 5. Also, it's a free download!

(Not) living life to the fullest

So I've basically reduced my blog posts to my sideblog and responding to Christine's blog posts, but whatever, it works.

So yes, I also had reading ambitions this summer. Though, they weren't as specific as Christine's... my goal was basically to read a book sometime during my school-less months. And sometimes at night I think, hey! I should read right now! But then my brain's all like,

But yeah, it's probably been a month since I started watching Supernatural and I'm almost through Season 7. Even in my twisted world view, I know that I have a problem. Do I plan to do anything about said problem? Ehh.

But on the bright side, I guess I'm learning a lot about folk lore from different cultures? I think (or would like to think) that a lot of the lore is accurate to various cultures. For example, in the series the only way to kill a vampire was to decapitate it, which is based upon German and western Slavic lore. Also, salt is seen as a purification substance in both Wiccan and Shinto (and slightly in Christian variations, like in holy water sometimes). So at least it's not all crap?

Old school funk

Hey so a friend of mine showed me this song and I had to post it. It's got a great old-school feel to it, and seems like it would be a great strutting-while-you're-doing-chores song. I'll have to add it to my dishes playlist ;) Here's All You're Waiting For by Classixx featuring Nancy Whang!

Rocking out

Hey, so here's a song from a band a coworker of mine told me about today... I really like them. So yeah, here's Atomic Man by Portugal. The Man.

Classic deadmau5

Didn't feel like trying today, so here's the really long edit of Strobe by deadmau5. I love this song sososo much; it's great for doing stuff, like internet surfing or photo editing or anything really. Anyway, here it is!

Shameless plug

...except I'm very ashamed. So yeah, I could not think of ANY songs to post today, and there was nothing good on my Soundcloud feed, so I thought I'd muster up all my courage and actually post something on my Soundcloud account. So yes, I'm featuring it today, since I'm that self-centered.

But no, I make mixtapes (like, the actually mixed together kind) every month or so to listen to, and I made this vocal edit for one of them. So yes, it's basically the vocals of Krewella's Alive (a really commonly sampled song... seriously, it was in the mashup I posted a couple days ago) with the EDX Redub of Elements by Dinka, which is a pretty chill prog house song. I also added some vocal slicing that turned out okay at points, but I couldn't take it out, since I love vocal slicing so very much. Anyway, I thought I may as well post it, since nobody actually reads this :) No harm, no foul!

Oh, and free download (the legality of which is dubious, since neither of the vocal edit's root songs are free, but let's just see if anybody notices...).

Feelin' electric

Hey guys! Sorry I didn't post yesterday... I was on a night hike until almost midnight, and it completely slipped my mind!

Today's post is confusing, because it's an edit of a remix. I like the original remix, but the drop was pretty overwhelming, so I was going to edit it out. But low and behold, somebody else beat me to the catch on Soundcloud! Goes to show that no idea is original ;)

Anyway, it's got a great dance beat and some Temper Trap-ish vocals, and it's a great tune, even if the drop is just resampled from other parts of the song. Oh, it's a free download as well!

Just a little deadmau5

Because who doesn't like a little deadmau5 here and there? Stupid people, that's who!

Here's a fun track he did a bit back called There might be coffee, which I love. It's pretty calming, while still upbeat. A great (home)work track, or just whenever you're doing something and need an unobtrusive song to listen to. Enjoy!

Nu disco instrumental

Hey guys!

This is a quick upload, I know, but I'm working on a mix cd for a beach trip tomorrow, and I wanted to squeeze this post in before midnight :) So here's a funky, cool instrumental with some awesome vocal slicing: the Oliver Nelson remix of Eddie by Everywhere! Also, it's free (after jumping through some hoops).

A Cool Thing

So a friend of mine posted this on Facebook and I thought I'd just make a post about it because it's really cool.

There's this composer named Eric Whitacre, and he does these videos called Eric Whitacre's Virtual Choir. It sounds cheesy, but the most current one he did was a collaboration between over five thousand singers from over one hundred countries. I think it's pretty impressive that the technology to which we have become so accustomed has made such things possible!

So yeah, the animation's really bad, but I don't care because it's really neat and you can see all the people who contributed!

Hakuna matata!

Really, the only reason I'm posting this song is that it reminds me so much of The Lion King. It's a really neat song, with some great male-female harmonies (which are refreshing, since I'm so used to the currently-popular indie male-female octave-apart style). Also, I just love RAC and (most) everything he does, so there's that! (Free download, btw.)

So yes, here's Under African Skies featuring SPEAK and Liz Anjos! And remember, it means no worries... for the rest of your days!

Tropical grit pop?

At least, that 's what they call it... more Ghost Beach! Yay! I really like the vocals, especially the harmonies (like around 1:06), and just the overall feeling to this song :) very happy! Even if it does remind me a lot of Galaxy by Owl City... whatever, good music is good music!

Oh, and happy hump day, y'all!

Back to da funk

Remember how I featured a remix of Charles Deluxe in my last Flashback Alert? Well, what are the chances?! He just (kind of) released his first song in six months! And I'm pretty excited about it.

This one's the Charles Deluxe remix of Closer by Tegan and Sara, and it is really really really really really good. I've been itching to share this one, and I can't wait until he provides some means of downloading it! Enjoy :)

RIP Ye Mengyuan and Wang Linjia

First of all, if you haven't read Christine's post about the plane crash, do that. It's a lot more important than this sideblog. Seriously.

Now that you've read that, you're probably not in the mood for the song I was going to post today, so I'll post a more somber song... just in case you feel like having a good cry. Here's We Don't Eat by James Vincent McMorrow, and here's to cherishing what we have, because the lives we live can be unpredictable and cruel.

So let's remember to be there for those experiencing loss, because the only thing harder than suffering is suffering alone.

Out of songs to post for now...

Okay, so I only have so many recent songs to post on here, and this week has been slow, so I'm going to have to reach pretty deep into the barrel for this one... but that doesn't make it any less good!

So I am an avid fan of Madeon (especially his earlier stuff), and today I will pay tribute to one of his older songs, called Shurieken! Here it is! Also, it's a free download!

Flashback: Barry Manilow

This is for all the fanilows out there (who also happen to like discoey house). Yep, it's time for yet another...

Flashback Alert!

This one is a remix of Barry Manilow's iconic Everything's Gonna Be All Right, done by Charles Deluxe, a funky house producer that I love, and can't wait for him to start releasing songs again. So yes, here's that!

Spanish is a language I do not know

...but I still like this song!

Here's a fun, indie song in Spanish by Trails and Ways! It's short and sweet, has a catchy melody, and some clapping -- because honestly, who doesn't like to clap? So without further adieu, here's Como Te Vas by Trails and Ways.

America rant

Hey, guys! Happy Fourth of July to those in America! To everybody else, hope you're having a great Thursday :)

So I've been kind of getting annoyed at the mindset of many Americans lately, and I feel like I might as well just post about it, so if you don't like opinions you can listen to some Macklemore below. But yeah, it seems like most of what I see on the internet of Americans are 1) people who constantly complain/poke holes in our country's infrastructure, or directly target other citizens with whom they don't agree, and 2) people who talk about liking our country, but only sarcastically. It kind of annoys me.

I mean, it isn't a crime to love (or even like or appreciate) your country, and it seems like lately we as a people are largely just overly avoiding stepping on other people's toes. Unless you're obnoxious about it, nobody will be offended if you mention liking your country without sarcastically tacking a 'murica at the end of your sentence. Seriously.

Don't get me wrong; I in no way think that the United States does everything perfectly... of course we have room for improvement, as every country does in some respect. But to a point (while still keeping in mind our country's errors and attempting to improve them) I feel like we should appreciate what we have. I, personally, am thankful that I could receive a pretty decent public education (even though I think there should be more of a focus on grammar), and that we have a pretty dang corruption-free police force, and we have nice roads and other shiny public services.

Many people just take things for granted, and are often so whiney and annoying. My least favorite kind of person in this respect is the kind of person that just talks about how they want to move to Canada or Germany or something just because they don't like certain aspects of America's government. Truthfully, if you're so willing to jump ship, I'd rather you just follow through and leave all the people who are actually willing to work for a better future here.

So yeah, that was pretty serious, so here's a list of things I like about America:
  • We cook some pretty dang good food
  • We're pretty diverse and deal with that diversity very well, all things considered
  • We're able to laugh at ourselves (even if we do it too much sometimes)
  • We can be quite festive at times, and we can come together as a people when disaster strikes
  • We have fireworks, which are pretty
Anyway, happy Fourth of July! And don't forget; it's okay to like your country :)

Pumping some blood!

Still late on these, wow...

Today's a chill song that actually has a pretty up-tempo electro drop, but it somehow works! I love FIXYN; they do great remixes.

So here's FIXYN's remix of Pumpin' Blood by Nonono. Cheers!

Supes chill

Ahh I missed my deadline again! But only by ten minutes or so, so it's not too bad....

I'll be brief: today's song is really chill, and it's probably best known from Drive (the movie), which had a surprisingly good soundtrack (it also featured a song by Kavinsky). Anyway, this is A Real Hero by College & Electric Youth, and it is a fun indie electronic song. Enjoy!

Oh, and this song is dedicated to my brother, who needs to chillax and learn to be a real human being :) love ya, bro!

It's July now!

The month of (United States) independence! How neat!

So I thought today Christine would be guest posting, but apparently not... but I'm not being passive aggressive at all! Or sarcastic! jk though :)

Well it's technically a day late, so I'll have to post two songs! Here's the first... it's a remix! I know, big surprise. Sorry, I just really like remixes. I also really love Oliver (which consists of U-Tern and Oligee), because they always have such a crisp, catchy, and retro sound! They're basically always perfect. I mean, if I don't like one of their songs, it's not because it's not a good song... it's just a matter of taste.

Anyway! Here's Oliver's remix of Mayer Hawthorne's Her Favorite Song, the first July song of Jacob's Infinite Playlist! Get excited!

Oh, and sorry about the weird one-song set format... Mayer Hawthorne is being a butt and not allowing embedding of his songs, which doesn't make a lick of sense since this is a free remix.
